Brink Character Customization Video Released

A brand-new video has made its way onto the internet, showing off Brink's character customization system. In it, Brink Game Director Paul 'Locki' Wedgwood walks us through creating a character and customising the guy for both the Resistance and Security factions. The video is available in normal and high definition flavors - we recommend the latter for maximum crispness.

Why there is not choice for the player to use custom colour ? (based on RGB colour for example, instead of "red/blue/orange"), plus I hope there will be at least 1 pink colour.

Why can't we make custom face ala Oblivion ? (fail)

Why can't we use custom textures ? (epic fail here)

Give it a rest already...

As for video, erm yeah, nice I guess, would prefer gameplay clips though.

EDIT: what's with the gimp masks for the security?

He isn't wearing a shirt! :O

PS: I really like the tire armor!
Posted on 18 January, 2010 - 19:49
Of course he doesn't, would be hard to get the right skin tone and tattoo's right if he did. Doesn't mean he gets a shirt in-game.

that indeed looks good very nice clean detailed look, are those the models in game for a 100%?

Still, it would be even better with some of the features AnthonyDa suggested.

I heard from Rahdo that the resistance is skins, and the security is shrits. That is the default setting when you customize your character so that you are wearing nothing.

I think the resistance gets all the cool tattoos, while the security does not based on the fact that security never takes off their undershirt. Maybe arm tattoos, but not full body ones.

Wow, nice one SD, i was waiting to see some customization.

from the vid it looks like the tattoos are not team restricted.

The answer for all three of these is that the choice was made to have higher quality character art with the compromise of slightly less options for customization. It's a fair trade off, I'd say. I think our characters are some of the best looking in the industry, and there's no way they'd be as high detail/high quality if they had to work for player being able to adjust cheekbones manually (in many of the games that offer that level of customization, they end up looking... not so good, IMHO). Same is true for colour and texture. The char artists are actually hand tweaking all the colour choices and such to make sure they look great. If they instead chose to support RGB colour wheels, they'd become a lot more homogenized.

I have to admit that when I first got to SD, I tended to agree with your viewpoint (having just finished Fable 2). But considering what Tim and his guys have come up with (this released video hardly shows anything), I'm happy to say they made the right call...

In oblivion you're not bothering other people with your atropurpureus jacked with harvard crimson stripes wearing hospital green shorts with large arbutus coloured dots, nor does your character have to look like the child of jigsaw and Obama or Elmo and Chuck Norris.

Looks very good. Happy to see Voice packs and that we British are going to be finally catered for which makes a nice chance.

Like the different armor and outfits but I do hope they are only for show and don't have an impact on the game other than showing it off as a cool reward.

Wonderful. The whole thing looks well laid out and easy to navigate, nothing will be lost to people under, what I hope is the massive character customization
Great job, Im really looking forward to this game.
